Everyone has a favourite media moment, whether it's a Royal Wedding or the debut of the Teletubbies. ICONS is supporting The National Museum of Photography, Film
and Television's quest to find the public's favourite media moments. The museum has unveiled its
'Media Matters' campaign as it re-launches itself as The National Media Museum. The whole idea is to get people talking about the
importance of media in everyday life.
Is your iconic media moment a dramatic news event or memorable highlights from your favourite comedy show? Take a look at the
choices made by well-known celebrities. It may help you decide.
Moon Landing
Sir
Trevor McDonald and Moonwalks – “I was just about to come to England
and almost the last thing I remembered watching on television before I
made this journey, with great, great intensity was the moon landings.
To actually sit in your living room and watch people come down that
ladder, onto the surface of the moon was perhaps one of the more
extraordinary events of my life."
Greg Dyke goes for Goons:“I
was a Goons fan, I was a bit young for it really but I had an elder
brother who was 6 years older than me and used to sit me down as a
young kid and make me listen to the Goons."
Countdown
for Carol Vorderman: “ The first moments when Richard Whiteley, our
beloved Whiters, said the words ‘As the countdown to a new channel
ends, a brand new Countdown begins’. So it has to the very first
episode of Countdown, I’ve loved it and I know millions of people have
loved it ever since.”
Media moments can be key
events in the development of photography, film, radio, TV or even the
web. Hysterical or historical? What would your Favourite Media
Moment be?
