Alice in Wonderland will be making an appearance on the big screen in 2010.

Tim Burton, famed for directing hit films Edward Scissorhands and Big Fish, is directing the feature-length film adapted from the Lewis Carroll classic.

He’s once again teaming up with actor Jonny Depp, who is playing The Mad Hatter, and his fiancée Helena Bonham Carter (who features in our English Eccentricity ICON) who is playing the Red Queen.

American actress Anne Hathaway is playing the White Queen, and Matt Lucas of ‘Little Britain’ fame (also featured in our English Sense of Humour ICON) is playing Tweedledum and Teedledee.

Eighteen-year-old Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is playing Alice.
