The ball
No surprises here. Jimmy Hill’s been involved with football from
every angle – as a player, coach, manager, chairman, TV executive and
broadcaster – and he picks that spherical object at the root of
so much sporting pleasure as his icon.
“The Ball provides
minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years of physical and mental
pleasure, whilst playing, coaching or viewing. The ball of varied
shape, substance and size is the undisputed icon of English and
worldwide sporting joy, gracing football, cricket, rugby, tennis, golf,
netball, hockey, basketball, squash, badminton, croquet, billiards,
snooker, skittles, bowls, polo, etc. Just
think of the hours and hours of fun that people get from this simple
object”.
