Basil - why didn't I think of him? What an icon of all things English: outward appearance of faded aristocracy, but quite cheeky and occasionally very saucy. He was created in the early 1960s by Peter Firmin - the creator of Bagpuss and Noggin the Nog. Originally Basil was one of 'The Three Scampis'. In the mid-1960s, however, he became the alter-ego of Ivan Owen, who remained the voice and inner being of Ivan right up until his death in the late 1990s.

Basil Brush is the greatest English icon. He has kept me laughing since I was a little girl of 4 and I still watch all his shows now at the grand old age of 41! Infact, I am sure he makes me laugh even more now than he did then...long live Basil...boom!boom!

Basil Brush is a True Icon
Basil Brush has entertained people of all aged for years and is known in many other places other than here in England. Thanks for putting up my nomination for Basil Brush. It's him that has brought so much for a wide range of people with his mad jokes and his exciting catch phrase: "Boom! Boom!"

Basil has been bringing his jokes to kids for decades - he's the best fox-on-th-box!!! He's the best comedian going and is strictly related to the humourus side of the UK.
