This aircraft was in the great British pioneering spirit as much as the Spitfire and the Great Western Railway! It may have been expensive and politically incorrect but this is where value came before cost.

If we hadn't have spent billions on this technological white elephant we would still have an aircraft industry. Instead, we gifted domination of the world aircraft industry to the Americans by betting the farm on this dumbo.

It represents all things that British engineering has achieved. Sleek, and fast capable of Mach 2.2 it was well ahead of its time!

Don't be daft, Concorde was French. Just look at its name. At least it was half French and including it here effectively calls for Anglo-French union.

I used to live in west London, under the Heathrow flightpath, could set my watch by Concorde flying over. I never begrudged the noise of that gorgeous plane flying over and regularly would step outside just to glimpse it. It made me proud to be English every time I saw it.

When Concorde was built Britain was at its best - best fashions houses in the world, best engineers, technicans and inventors - all now sadly gone because of continuouse ressessions caused by joining the EU!

To answer the pedants - Concorde may have been half French, but to everyone around the world (other than the French and the pedants) she will always be a symbol of British engineering - sadly removed from our skies by a French compay unable to service it properly

Concorde is an icon instantly recognisable the world around and is a testament to a fine design team. The name symbolises harmony and the graceful lines of the craft gladden the eye. She was operated longest by the British who gave her a fitting send off, unlike the other airlines...

Of course it's an icon. The skill and engineering to get this beast in the sky is awesome. Only military jets fly at this speed, to attempt a passenger airplane to fly like this required the most specialised skills. Yes it wasn't commercially succesful and it could never be but what a triumph for the engineers and crew who kept it flying, mainly safely, is extraordinary. We should celebrate it for what it was, a one off of extreme beauty, noisy and dirty, but what a sight - it will never be beaten. No computers, analogue technology and those Olympus engines roaring with afterburn, stretching up to 12" inches in flight, a rare sight to behold. I am sure aviation historians will only marvel that it flew at all let alone flying 2.5 million passengers. A glorious bird.
