If anyband spawns one member to create one of the loudest bands ever (Motorhead ;p) then hell yeah they're an icon. Oh and Terry Ollis went on to become a caretaker for my school!!! I'm not lying at all. I talk to him regularly about Hawkwind. Thank you for believing me if you did. if you didn't...your loss... Go Hawkwind!

Robert Calvert

Calvert was one of the unsung poets and true talents of rock music. I cannot understand why so little hawkwind is heard on radio-particulary with Robert Calvert. When I first heard his stuff I was blown away.Quark Strangeness and Charm and Warrior at The Edge of Time would be my favourites.

Just listen to the 1973 Space Ritual album to get an idea of what they are like. 33 years later Space has never sounded better and the Hawksters keep on going. They have been a big part of the soundtrack of live to me.

The only true 'Alternative' band - a real English icon respected across the world yet still very 'underground'. A huge catalogue of amazing and ground-breaking music and an honest rebellious attitude - always years before their time. They were Punk when the Pistols were still wetting their beds, they are simply the greatest band of all time - and still going today with the huge respect of a loyal fan base.

They are more than an English icon. They are an icon of the planet Earth

The only band I have followed 'religiously' since 1975 my only regret being too young to have seen the earlier shows that are now legendary. This is the band that inspired me not only to play music but to accept that there is an alternative choice to the mainstream. Hawkwind are the definitive UK people's band who never played to fashion or the music industry - desite many line up changes they hold true to one of the best live acts and yes they have fun doing it too. Dave Brock is a legend - and no one else can play those spacey riffs and many have tried. Long live Hawkwind.

What Hawkwind means to me is far to complicated for here but the contribution to the style, performances and personalitys of other artists ranging from punk to pop is proven without doubt. They have always been able to produce examples of every style of music and still keep the identity that the fans have been able to recognise over the years. I thanked Dave Brock once in a private moment watching some Jazz very late one night at a Hawkfest for keeping it all together for so long and now i do the same but publically ....Cheers Guys and may the Godess bless the good ship Hawkwind and all who sail, and have sailed in her.
