Jade says that Man Utd 'is more famous than the city it is situated in' - but Man Utd's Old Trafford ground isn't actually in Manchester, it's in the adjacent borough of Trafford (the clue's in the name !)

How can Manchester United not be an icon? It is more famous than the city it is situated in, and a team full of history. Old Trafford has seen tragedy and glory throughout it's years, it is a team England should be proud of, even if you don't support them.

Rejoin in football conversation anywhere in the world - "Where are you from ?" - Reply "England" - "Ah ! Manchester United" As iconic in football as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Glasgow Celtic or Juventus - Manchester United is the epitomy of English football.

1.It's loved by many in the world 2. It's loved by me, by my friends, by my family 3.It's the only Club with such great traditions and history 4. It's the third in the 50 Quintessences of Englishness list. 5It's... ... ... ... ... 6....

England is the home of the world's most pooular sport and Manchester United are the most famous football club in the world. Beckham, Cantona, Best and Charlton. A conversation in an English pub would not be the same without an in depth discussion about every kick, tackle and pass from Saturday's afternoon games. Love them or hate them Manchester United cannot be excluded from this debate and nor should they be. The team has been consistently successful, winning in Europe on numerous occasions, and has conducted itself admirably in the post-war era. Support the club as an English icon - even if not as a football team!

One of if not the most recognised sporting team in the world. A legacy which was probably started by the Munich Air Disaster. Admittedly recognised as a brand as much as a team now but nonetheless British and seen as so in this age of globalisation.

Old Trafford has to be the best football stadium in England. And although i am a Barnet fan, I have been to Old Trafford twice (once for a game, and the other time - a tour). It was splendidly built, and extremely impressive on the eye. Amazing.
