Raffles the Amateur Cracksman

Raffles has been around for over one hundred years. He was created by Arthur Conan Doyle's brother in law, EW Hornung, who deliberately fashioned him and his off-sider Bunny Manders as inversions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. An amateur cricketer, he was also an amateur cracksman who stole from the rich - and kept the money for himself! He really does deserve to be an English icon.

A most likeable scoundrel, and nothing low about Raffles, either! Beautifully written stories by E.W. Hornung which still stand up today - nice to see the cracksman on the list.
