I really don't have the words to adequately express my feelings for this little bear, his pals and the whole magical world of NutWood. Whilst being both comforting and secure, the 'Rupert' stories nevertheless advocated an active approach to being fair, good and honourable. We were taught to be stout-hearted ,determined, modest and self-reliant; to appreciate the value of friendship and to lend assistance whenever needed. Not bad values eh?

My elder sister always received a Rupert Bear annual for Christmas and my mum used to love reading the rhyming sections out to her. Some of those annuals were passed down to me and even when I was much older, mum continued to purchase Rupert annuals yearly. (Probably because she loved little Raggerty due to his mischevious ways). Now a mum of teenagers myself I am proud to say that my children were also raised with Rupert stories and we all enjoyed them.

"Mum can I go to the North Pole with the Professor?" - "Yes as long as you put your coat on, but make sure you are back home in time for tea." The offer of adventures like that just do not happen in real life! But when I was reading those stories it felt as though I was whisked away in one of his great adventures. I received my first Rupert Bear book for Christmas in the mid fifties when I was five-years-old. From then on I was completely enthralled with the adventures he went on with his chums. Each year after, the highlight at Christmas was receiving the annual. Subsequently, my children were fans of Rupert, but now they are both adults I have to wait for grandchildren to arrive to be able to continue my passion of reading the adventures of Rupert Bear!

I have admired Rupert Bear for years. Indeed, he is a juvenile thing, but a welcome popular culture icon for the English. However, did'nt Rupert originate in the Netherlands?

I live in America now, but I grew up in England watching Rupert and would learn so much! Anytime I get a little homesick, I think of how much I used to love watching Rupert! Of course he is an english icon!!! He taught us as kids, how to be better kids. To use our minds and not be afraid to be british!!!

I have been a Rupert fan since the 50s. I still love him. I have collected many annuals and a big stuffed Rupert. I remember my mum reading the stories to me. I do not think Rupert ever ages, he is still great for children, but now the children that read Rupert are younger than when I grew up. I have lived in America since the 60s but never forgot Rupert.
