1. Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland and Through The Looking-Glass were banned in China in 1931 because the authorities objected to animals speaking like humans.

2. The Dormouse may have been based on the pet rabbit kept by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a friend of Carroll’s, which would sleep on the dining table!

3. The Alice Fantasyland Attraction at Disneyland features the voice of Kathryn Bennett who, aged 12, performed the same role in Disney’s 1951 animated Alice In Wonderland.

4. Singer Tom Waits wrote the music for an American musical version of Alice.

5. There is an Alice In Wonderland Collectors’ Group on eBay – they call themselves “We’re All Mad Here”.

6. In 1999, the writer Jenny Woolf discovered Charles Dodgson’s handwritten bank account ledgers in a private archive. Her transcription was published as Lewis Carroll In His Own Account.

7. Charles Dodgson never publicly acknowledged that he was Lewis Carroll and returned any letters addressed to him in that name.

8. Meryl Streep played Alice (as well as Humpty Dumpty and the White Queen) in a 1980 New York show based on the Alice books.

9. There is a Nintendo Game Boy computer game based on the 1951 animated Disney film.

10. Charles Dodgson was a prolific letter writer and kept a record of them all: his lifetime’s total was 98,721.
