Big Ben is the most remarkable clock I have ever seen, and most likely the most famous clock in the world. It is a mechanical wonder. The sound of its bells ringing is like music to my ears.

Big Ben with it's unique shape that adorns thousands of souvenirs of England, along with its quarterhourly chime, which is also used by every BBC newscast, has to be the quintessentially English icon of all time...

How is it that no Brit has suggested the most famous landmark on the planet? It had to be a Texan!

Big Ben is the most famous clock in England. It is seen in the background of news broadcasts from London. It still travels the world on HP sauce bottles. Big Ben is London.

No matter where you are in the world you can hear the chimes of Big Ben - perhaps BBC World Service is an icon too for providing the contact with home.
