Bowler Hat
Hat trick
In cricket, bowlers who took three wickets during a game with consecutive deliveries would be given a hat or cap – traditionally a bowler hat. This is the origin of the term hat trick. The bowler could then collect money from the crowd in the hat.
The Avengers
Although Mary Quant is most often credited with designing the mini-skirt, some people think designer John Bates was, in fact, responsible for it. His costumes and accessories for Diana Rigg in the 1960s television show The Avengers, have been said to define “Mod style”. Rigg’s character Emma Peel played alongside secret agent John Steed played by Patrick Macnee. His trademark was a bowler hat.
Silly Walks
In one of the most famous Monty Python sketches 'The Ministry of Silly Walks', John Cleese wears a bowler hat.
Headwear
Some Morris dancers, especially in the Devon and Cotswolds areas, wear colourful versions of everyday 19th century clothes, including bowler hats.
