The Basics
For many, Glastonbury Festival is an unsurpassed rite of passage and as big a deal as going on holiday with your mates for the first time. Indeed an equal amount of military precision planning is often required! Do NOT forget to bulk pack loo roll and tea bags and a pair of wellies, oh and a tent might come in handy...
Actually getting your hands on a ticket now involves a serious dose from lady luck - they run out fast. But once you enter the huge tented city - a magnificent mini-state under canvas - the cost, the queues, the loos all become part of the Glastonbury Festival experience, which for many, serves as a once in a lifetime experience.
Glastonbury Festival certainly has a lot to live up to; people rave about it (whether they’ve actually been or not) and the onus is very much on having the time of your life.
The site is in a beautiful location – Worthy Farm, Pilton - which is set in 900 acres in the Vale of Avalon, an area steeped in symbolism, mythology and religious traditions dating back hundreds and hundreds of years - it may even be the burial site of King Arthur. And it is enormous - more than a mile and a half across, with a perimeter of about eight and a half miles. No wonder even the most hardened Glastonbury-goers still get well and truly lost!
