About 6000 trees were needed to built HMS Victory, and oak trees made up 90% of the wood used.
Navy
Jane Austen’s brother Francis had a glorious career in the Navy, eventually rising to Admiral of the Fleet. Horatio Nelson (Admiral of HMS Victory) considered Francis to be “an excellent young man” and he narrowly missed involvement in the Battle of Trafalgar.
