Not only is the Iron Bridge itself a fantastic symbol of advertising flair and engineering chutzpah for the period (Abraham Darby's great bridge survived all the wooden bridges swept away down the Severn in 1795) - but the entire Ironbridge Gorge was crammed with tile and porcelain factories like Coalport, foundries and forges - leading the way to future mass production in our great industrial cities. Without the Ironbridge Gorge none of this might have happened and the world would have been a poorer place

The Ironbridge, Coalbrookdale, Shropshire was the first bridge in the world to be built of iron. It is situated in the Severn Gorge, an area of outstanding natural beauty and also the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. The whole area is also a World Heritage Site. Certainly an icon of Britain!

The Ironbridge Gorge was the cradle of our industrial revolution which led to so many advances. Not only the Gorge, but the bridge itself situated in Ironbridge, being the first cast iron bridge, and the forerunner of modern construction techniques.
