Magna Carta
Nottingham Castle
King John, who sealed Magna Carta in 1215, spent time in Nottingham Castle. It is also said that the Sheriff of Nottingham occupied the castle when Richard the Lionheart was away at the Third Crusade. According to legend, Nottingham Castle is the scene of the final showdown between the Sheriff and Robin Hood.
Runnymede
Three miles south east of Windsor, on the banks of the river Thames, is the famous meadow of Runnymede. It was here in 1215 that King John signed Magna Carta.
