Comment on Magna Carta
The Magna Carta was a basis for democracy in England but the rights were only extended to the nobles and barons. It said little about the commoners. While the US Constitution has been amended many times it has stood the test of time because it changed with the times. It is still far better than that of the Magna Carta. The Novgorod Pravda was actually more liberal and progressive than the Magna Carta and if it had not been for the Mongol invasions Russia would be the great democracy and not the USA. After all England had bad rulers who nearly destroyed the country whereas the US has survived bad presidents such as LBJ, Nixon, and Bush. So Mr. English should learn from that.

The Magna Carta was England's first and only written constitution. Since then we have managed very well without changing it or writing another one - so good was our original. The US Constitution, on the other hand, has been amended many times is its relatively short history - and it still doesn't work all that well.

Magna Carta (1215) deserves iconic status because of its important and enduring legacy. Its principles, are generally recognised around the world as those that govern societies committed to the rule of law.
