One of the most revolutionary aspects of Monty Python from its earliest days in the 1960s was its use of animation. The only other show before it to have used cartoons was "That Was The Week That Was" (1962-3), but it was the surrealist nature of the humour the Pythons dealt in that lent itself perfectly to the possibilities of animation.
