Oxbridge

Comment on Oxbridge

It isn't useful to separate Oxford and Cambridge when thinking of these ancient universities as an icon - it is as Oxbridge that they have provided us with the "Oxbridge mafia" and given there simultaneous charters (even though Cambridge was founded from Oxford), there is no real sense of precedence. The beautiful Oxford and Cambridge colleges, the whole Oxbridge donnishness, the sheer feeling of place being interwined with learning... it's forever English.

Cambridge and oxford are definitely the best ones in UK (Though there's little doubt which one is better.....of course, its got to be Cambridge) and represent the very traditional and aristocratic UK in the minds of my countrymen (Indians).....and the healthy rivalry between the two places spices up the otherwise academically intensive lives of people at both the places

"Oxbridge" is not a place! Why is there a picture of Cambridge under an entry for "Oxbridge"? In the tradition of the two "rivals" fighting it out we think that there should only be a choice between the two, not some soft option that doesn't really mean anything. And we know which one we would vote for!

That's wrong! It's completely not true that students at Oxford or Cambridge "typically refuse to speak the name of the other". I've never heard anything so daft and patently false!

Comment on Oxford and Cambridge Universities

Oxford and Cambridge are the most famous universities in the world and are the best possible representations of England. They show academic excellence, cultural and historical prestige, scientific innovation and sporting prowess. These great universities must must be included. Everywhere I travel, most notably Asia and America - people always mention that they would love to see Oxford and Cambridge.

Comment on Oxford and Cambridge Universities

They are the hubs of the academic world. This portmanteau resembles not only some of the finest English architecture but has produced world leaders and quite literally, world creators. It deserves a place as one of the icons of Britain as its name resonates throughout the world, may it be Tokyo or Santiago!
