1. In the 2005 film, Chatsworth House was used for the exteriors and some of the interiors of Pemberley, Darcy's family home. Jane Austen mentions Chatsworth in the book and it’s believed she had it in mind when describing Pemberley.

2. The Chatsworth House library contains a first edition of Pride And Prejudice.

3. In 2002, a rare, three-volume first edition was found in an Ayrshire castle. It sold for £22,000 at an Edinburgh auction.

4. One British fan wants to set up a Pride And Prejudice shop and café.

5. In 2005, Pride And Prejudice was voted the most romantic novel of all time by members of the 700-strong Romantic Novelists' Association.

6. The 1995 BBC adaptation was directed by Simon Langton – son of David Langton, who played Richard Bellamy in Upstairs, Downstairs.

7. Susannah Harker, who played Jane Bennet in the BBC’s 1995 series, is the daughter of Polly Adams, who played Jane in the BBC's 1967 version.

8. The first television adaptation of the book was made in 1938.

9. The 1940 film version, starring Laurence Olivier, featured costumes recycled from Gone With The Wind – and Clark Gable was the original choice for Mr Darcy.

10. Book dealers estimate that a first edition copy of Pride And Prejudice would be worth around £7,000 today.
