At once a romance and a comedy of manners, this classic story never ceases to enthrall people the world over, whether as a book, a TV series or a film.

Jane Austen's novel "Pride and Prejudice" is one of the most famous novels of the Victorian era and has come to be representative of English culture. Its subtle social satire has come to represent England in other countries in much the same way as Monty Python has, and thus should be an icon of England.

I am a Hongkonger at the age of 53. I started to read the book when I was about 15. I then had read the book frantically both in Chinese and English again and again during my teenage years. My two sons have heard from me of many accounts of the story since they were small boys. Two months ago, I forced my husband to see the film with me, and I purchased the DVD and watched again. Then, there was BBC series shown on TV, I followed the drama every Thursday night. Before it was finished, I purchased the BBC series DVD, and indulged to watch many many times. I again purchased three books, two in English but from different publishers and one in Chinese. I have read through the books, and I can even remember all dialogues between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. I am so addicted to the novel, to Elizabeth, and of course to Mr. Darcy. Becasue of the story, I have searched about the background and the society behind the novel at that time. I am Darcymaniac, I suppose. I know I am crazy, but don't tease me. I REALLY LOVE IT, and I really enjoy reading the story!

I met Pride and Prejudice in the summer before grade 9, I think. From that time on, I gradually got sucked into Jane Austen, until I had fully become a Janeite around grade 10. I love Jane Austen, and Pride and Prejudice is her best novel. Through JA, I was introduced to classical literature, and now am trying to improve my mind by reading as many classics as can interest me.
