Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding

Beefeaters

Although the origin of calling Yeomen Warders at the Tower of London "Beefeaters" is unknown, it may come from the fact that the early warders were paid in beef. The ravens at the tower still receive a daily ration of beef.

Recipe

In her "Book Of Household Management", Mrs Beeton suggests cooking Yorkshire pudding for one and a half hours! She also says that the beef should be served on top of the pudding and that a serving for six people costs an average of 7d.
