The car of the world - ghost story or a shadow in the dark, or just a phantom around the corner...With amazing workmanship, it is a superior machine. The Rolls-Royce is living art for all of us to love. Thank you Henry Royce Charles Rolls for what you are and what you do ...long live Roll-Royce!

Comment on Rolls-Royce

This is irritating - the real Rolls Royce tradition is carried by the aeroengine company, which is much bigger, much more important and British. Rolls Royce cars are essentially German, with a bit of British craftsmanship and the RR image. The usual preoccupation with image and style rather than content. Rolls has always been about engineering as much as image.

Comment on Rolls-Royce

Both in terms of engineering and car design the Rolls-Royce conjures up something that is quintessentially English. The Spirit of Ecstasy is immediately associated with Rolls-Royce and still seen today as an English company, even when ownership has moved across national boundaries.

Rolls Royce was and is still seen as the symbol of excellance in English engineering grand style and confort. The shape, grill and bonnet are recognised the world over. The double RR logo even remains carved into the building ( now a museum ) opposite St Basils Cathedral in Moscow's Red Square from when the Tzar had 12 of these famous cars.

The Pursuit of Excellence. "Anything worth doing is worth doing properly" Sir Henry Royce. The fact that over 50% of his cars from 1904 are still running, and that over half the world airlines and air forces are powered by Rolls-Royce shows the philosophy works. It is a very English and British Icon. Why are we waiting?

Three other icons which have been nominated - the Spitfire, Hurricane and Lancaster would not have been very successful if they had not been powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine. In addition the engine also powered the Mosquito which was the fastest allied bomber until jet power came along and the P51 Mustang which was the first allied fighter to fly over Berlin. The outcome of the war could have been so different without Rolls-Royce.

The true Rolls-Royce today is the aeroengine company, one of the few High-Tech engineering companies left in this country. Rolls-Royce is also very involved with most facets of power generation, from gas fired power stations to nuclear power for submarines.
