The Basics
Is it the most influential album in pop history? If the reaction at the time was anything to go by, the Beatles’ eighth LP, "Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band", was bound for Instant Classic status from the moment it was released in June 1967. The album spent nearly half of the next year at the top of the charts, and unveiled some of the band’s most memorable tunes: With A Little Help From My Friends, When I’m Sixty-Four, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and, of course, the title track.
The Birth of Sgt. Pepper
By the end of 1966 the Beatles were the undisputed kings of the popular music world; with seven albums behind them, and just about every record broken, screaming fans pretty much everywhere on earth, it was time for a change.
Its Influence
As long as music exists, the Beatles will continue to influence the people who make it, from symphony orchestras to heavy metal groups. The 1967 album "Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band" is often considered their most important and emulated contribution to the world.
