What inspired the track "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" and how old was Paul McCartney when he wrote "When I'm Sixty-Four"? Read on and find out.

1. The Beatles used the wah-wah and fuzzbox effects pedals for the first time on Sgt. Pepper.

2. EMI chairman Sir Joseph Lockwood insisted that Mahatma Gandhi was removed from the album’s collage cover because he "didn’t want to offend the Indians".

3. Sgt. Pepper was the first album on which the Dolby noise reduction system was used.

4. "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" was actually inspired by a picture drawn by John Lennon’s son, Julian.

5. "A Day In The Life" was played at the 1967 funeral of playwright Joe Orton; on the day of his death, Orton was due to meet with director Richard Lester to discuss Up Against It, the screenplay Brian Epstein had commissioned him to write for the Beatles.

6. "Billy Shears" - mentioned in the segue between tracks one and two, was said to be the name of the man who "replaced" Paul McCartney, rumoured to have actually died in 1967.

7. George Harrison’s original version of "Within You, Without You" lasted 30 minutes.

8. The harp on "She’s Leaving Home" was played by Sheila Bromberg.

9. Paul McCartney wrote "When I’m Sixty-Four" while he was still at school.

10. Ringo Starr insisted that Lennon and McCartney change the original opening line of "With A Little Help From My Friends", from "What would you do if I sang out of tune? Would you throw ripe tomatoes at me?".
