The Mini

Comment on The Mini

I love the Mini and bought one in 2002. I would have liked to own one of the early models, but there's something to be said for airbags, passenger restraints, abs brakes and most importantly, availability of parts here in the USA. That and the fact that this ICON is STILL made in Oxford, England.

yes the original mini is THE english icon, so no no no no no or should i say NEIN to the use of the bmw version in the same text, designed by germans, powered by american designed engines, they are not even small let alone mini! mini only in name, not in history or cult status. the mini for me will always be long drives out on summer days in the 70's and the italian job at bank holidays, my my trips to work now. its not some cleaver peice of cashing in for people suffering a mid life crisis, too big to fit in an original and so claim some retro respect for driving a bmw. grave robbing the mini name sorry, its more then an icon...its a passion.

because it is the right icon to represent that a symbol of the past can be renewed and still be a great symbol for the present and future...just like britain should be!

The mini will be forever associated with 60's Britain. This car seems to epitomise everything about British culture during the 'Swinging Sixties'. I'm sure if you showed an image of this to almost anyone and asked them what it represented they would associate it with the success of Britain in many fields (music, fashion, art, film, to name but a few) during this decade.
