Things to Do
There's a lot more to do than just reading it!
- Invent some new words - and see if they're already in the dictionary.
- Go to your local library and feast your eyes on all 20 volumes of the O.E.D.
- Next time you come across a new or interesting word, look it up and discover its origins. For example, the word "quiz" originates from the mid-19th century and is thought to come from the word "inquisitive".
- If you're really interested in words, consider becoming a lexicographer (someone who writes, compiles and edits dictionaries). Find out more here
- Apply to go on a word-based game show - or just be part of the audience. Click here to find out more about appearing on Channel 4's hit show Countdown
