At a time when those unelected, unaccountable and undismissable faceless Eurocrats across the channel are, with the assistance of our successive governments, doing all they can to wipe out all things British, we NEED icons like the red phone box to remind us of our priceless heritage. Many local people have, thank God, campaigned to get them listed as parts of our national heritage, which means they cannot be removed without widepsread public approval. So far, 3000 of the traditional telephone boxes have been saved by this democratic campaign and locals throughout most parts of the country are joining the fight to extend the number of kiosks preserved for the benefit of the nation. The village I live in is, as I write, in contact with our Local Authority and BT to hopefully save our own red box. Let's hope this new kind of "Red Revolution" succeeds.

The removal of our red telephone boxes without any consultation whatsoever was the greatest single act of vandalism ever perpetrated upon our society! I feel so strongly about this issue that were I in a position of power, I would have those responsible for this crime hunted-down and incarcerated in the Tower! On reflection, I think I'd rather have them shot! (without any consultation...)

Does anyone know anything about the small model UK call box, who made it and how much one is worth? They were about 15" high, with a real phone in them - a phone that works. I bought one around 1996, one of the early ones, made before the quality dropped dramatically. Mine is excellent quality, heavy and VERY red.

The K6 phone-box plays a major part in the iconic street furniture in Britain and it is a shame that they are disappearing. My earliest memory of the box was to have to press button A to connect or button B to get your money back and of course you had to speak to an operator (no dial phones). Yes a super icon.

These should be icons because they are recognised worldwide and are a sign of our heritage.

Were once seen everywhere in England, from the rural village to the sprawling Metropolis. If anything deserves iconhood, they do!

A mundane item of street furniture that by design was made into something special. They should be kept and brought back into town squares and other sites.
