2. In Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix, Harry and his fellow witches and wizards gain access to the Ministry of Magic via a red phone box.

3. Several red phone boxes have crossed the Atlantic to America. They can also be found, thanks to the colonial influence, on the Mediterranean islands of Malta and Gozo. Likewise, in Australia and New Zealand some have been preserved in sensitive or historic sites.

4. In Kingston upon Hull, where the telephone system used to be under the control of the city council rather than the Post Office, phone boxes were painted cream - and had no crown.

5. Doctor Who's TARDIS is in the shape of a 1950s British police box, not, as some people wrongly believe, a phone box.

8. In June 2005, City of London Lord Mayor Michael Savory launched a campaign to save red telephone boxes at historic sites, including St Paul’s Cathedral and Fleet Street.

9. Hollywood actor Michael Madsen (Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill) has an old phone box in his front garden, in an effort to preserve a little bit of the London that he remembers for his children.

10. A phone box marking the spot which is the very centre of the British Isles can be found in the picturesque Lancashire village of Dunsop Bridge in the Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
