York Minster

King Raedwald

The first church on the site of York Minster was a wooden structure built hurriedly in 627 to provide a place to baptize Edwin, King of Northumbria. In around 616, Edwin was in East Anglia under the protection of King Raedwald. Raedwald is considered a likely candidate of the Sutton Hoo ship burial.
