Westminster Abbey

An architectural masterpiece of the 13th to 16th centuries, Westminster Abbey has been the scene of many historical events. Nearly all the kings and queens of England have been crowned here and it is also where many monarchs and leading figures are buried. The Abbey never charges people who want to worship. But it does rely almost entirely on paying visitors and tourists for its income. The costs of running the Abbey and maintaining the historic buildings are covered largely from these admission fees - Westminster Abbey receives no funding from the Crown or the Church and only occasional project support from the State.
