Ashdown Forest covers 14,000 acres of lowland heathland which has never been under the plough and so provides a unique habitat for many species of flora and fauna. The landscape of the area is distinctive – rolling hills draped with small, irregular fields, abundant woods and hedges, scattered farmsteads and sunken lanes – all of which can be viewed from many points in the forest.
