If Stonehenge is a phew! Avebury is a cheeks puffed out Speilbergian mouth opener. Built to embody Neolithic man's dexterity with an antler and simple tools, it is the grandest example of the 'stones out' architectural mentality of the period. If Stonehenge was a Cathederal, Avebury was the Lourdes of stone worshippers. With as many whys and hows as there are views the site is a must for any megalith enthusiast. Oh, and there's a pub in the middle.

Avebury is an English village in the middle of a stone circle (henge) with lots of land owned by the National Trust - what a combination!
