B of the Bang, Manchester

B of the Bang, Manchester

Is this an icon?

or

B of the Bang, Manchester

Designed by Heatherwick Studios, The B of the Bang is the epitome of English Design in the 21st century, and currently Britain's tallest scultpure. It embodies not only British design but also highlights our sporting achievements through the title, which was inspired by Linford Christie stating that he started his races on the "B of the Bang" from the gun. The B of the Bang is captivating, there is nothing in this country, to date, that even compares both in scale and innovation.

This is a joke, the thing is falling apart! Last year the road was shut nearby and pedestrians were forced into the road by HERAS fencing-or Is that supposed to be part of the artistic ambience? The thing is rusty, but of course artists will say that is part of the industrial heritage the work is trying to convey- no sorry it is not it is rusty ,cheap and nasty and has cost money that could have provided a better legacy for Manchester

I pass the B of the Bang at least once a aweek, and it's actually starting to come to pieces with certain spikes dropped off and missing from it, so to use it as an example of British design at it's best is a bit of an own goal. Actually, maybe it's spot on in that respect!
