Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art

Baltic is a major international centre situated at Gateshead Quays and accessible via Gateshead Millennium Bridge. The landmark building (formerly a disused grain warehouse) is one of the premier art spaces, in Europe with over 3000 square metres of art space, a cinema/lecture space, and a library and archive for the study of contemporary art. Baltic presents a dynamic and ambitious programme of changing exhibitions.

This is an amazing use of space and has revitalised a once dead area of the Quayside. As well as being a great gallery space, the building has been used to great effect visually from both the inside and the outside. The views from the top, looking down the river, are splendid.
