Birkenhead Tramway

Is this an icon?

or

Birkenhead Tramway

The Birkenhead Tramway was established in 1860 and was the first street tramway in Europe running from Woodside Pier to Birkenhead Park. The tramway was electrified in 1901 and finally closed in 1937. However that was not the end for the historic Birkenhead Tramway. The tramway reopened from Woodside Pier to the Pacific Road Museum and Taylor Street in 1994 as a Birkenhead Heritage Tramway using some classic Hong Kong trams as well as some historic Merseyside trams. Thus the Birkenhead Tramway deserves to be an icon and is in fact historically significant as the birthplace of the street tramway.
