Fortnum & Mason

It is emblematic of all the things that are quintessentially English, not British: tradition, discretion, and understated elegance. It is not a gauche bauble like Harrods. A visit there always puts a smile on my face, and is a tonic for my soul.

My first visit to Britian was a wonder. Among the great things I did was to have Welsh Rarebit at the Fountain restaurant at Fortnum & Mason. Best I have had. After lunch I bought all types of teas to bring home to US as souvenirs. A wonderful English experience.

Picnics are an English institution. Without Fortnum and Mason, there would hardly be a worthwhile picnic or special meal.
