For the sheer beauty of not just the interior but also the exterior, the building is a landmark and well-known throughout Manchester. It is known as Manchester's Taj Mahal and designed by Edward Pugin, son of the architect of the Houses of Parliament.

It is remarkable the amount of dedication and fundraising going into restoring the Monastery, A real Community spirit about it.

As well as being a beautiful landmark in East Manchester for over 140 years, Gorton Monastery has survived 17 years of dereliction and will become, in 2007 the most wonderful place to visit and will be here for many years to come.
