Liverpool Waterfront

The best views of the famous Liverpool waterfront are to be had from the Wirral side of the River Mersey, but the most fun is to be had from exploring it close up. Albert Dock is a hugely successful renovation project that gives a real flavour of maritime Liverpool. In between the atmospheric locks and original dockland features, the large warehouses now provide space for Tate Liverpool, the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Beatles Story and the former TV studios for Richard and Judy’s This Morning (remember the floating weather map?). The buildings also host stylish residential apartments and numerous exceptionally trendy bars and restaurants.

Further north, three stunning buildings stand imposingly over the pierhead: the Three Graces. The Royal Liver Building, with the famous Liver birds perched on top, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building, were built at the beginning of the 20th century to impress those sailing into or out of the port. There’s much else to see, and ambling along the waterfront gives you a insight into Liverpool’s history as well as a pretty bracing dose of fresh air.

A world heritage site, this magnificent vista was many peoples last view of England as they left these shores or their first view as they approached. Also a welcome safe haven for seamen especially during war time.

One of the last sights of Europe for people from all over Europe going to the New World. Must be listed as an ICON. Second city of the Empire, paid more in taxes than the whole of the Midlands in Victorian times. Need I say more!

Wonderful architecture and tons of history. A stunning and dramatic vista for the whole of England to be proud of.
