It is not for the fog that I cannot see what people are talking about in this nomination. Ever since the Clean Air Act of 1958 we have never really had London fog as it was. The closest to fog is the mist on the River Thames from time to time. No, London fog has gone.

I remember working in London during the "Great Smog" in December 1952. It took about 4 or 5 hours to travel home - a trip of about 35 miles, which usually took less than an hour. Shopping was a surprise - I was in Selfridges and literally could not see across the store because of the smog.
