Preserved Railways

Having effectively invented the concept of a railway, the English were also the first to start to preserve their railway heritage. Go to any county across England, and you will almost certainly find at least one preserved steam railway, operating their own engines, and carrying passengers to a timetable. In many cases, the pioneers of preserving the railways faced significant obstacles to their goals but to their credit, they persisted, and were responsible for preserving a significant portion of English heritage.
