During the dark days of the Luftwaffe Blitz, which had been redirected to inflict heavy damage on London, and to strike a psychological blow to morale, the efforts of the RAF and flak groups were augmented by the use of barrage balloons, tethered to lorries for ease of repositioning. These silent sentinels afforded some relief from low-level bombing runs, which would have permitted even more damage than what the Germans were able to inflict. 'They also serve...'
