The Chronicles of Narnia

Is this an icon?

The Chronicles of Narnia

Narnia is a fictional world created by children's writer Clive Staples Lewis (1898-1963) for a saga of seven novels which commences with 'The Magician's Nephew' and ends with 'The Last Battle' and includes perhaps the most popular 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe'. The land is peopled by talking animals and other mythical beasts and ruled by magic. Characters, usually children, can enter the land from our world. Themes running through the books can be traced back to a variety of influences including Genesis, the Book of Revelation and the Arabian Nights. Tnhere have been numerous adaptations of 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe', including most recently a major film by Disney.

The great Chronicles of Narnia books by C.S. Lewis are among the greatest children's books in the world.

I agree with the Northern Ireland comment, and would definitely contend that this is a UK icon - and an extremely influential one too!
