The Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens

This special art gallery, located within the grounds of Kew Gardens, houses the works of botanical artist Marianne North. North travelled the world to paint flora and fauna, and later dedicated her works to Kew for posterity. She was one of that rare breed of Victorian lady travellers who had the guts to leave the safety of home (and their restricted lives). To my knowledge, there is no other gallery in the world like it, and it represents the spirit of a strong English woman who had a burning passion to see and experience the world, and capture the beauty of nature in her art.
