The Red Squirrel

The Red Squirrel is one of our endangered species and could soon be extinct. It is an icon - it appears on Christmas cards and calendars like the Robin does. Making it an icon on your list will help bring the Red Squirrels plight to the nations attention and possibly make the difference between the extinction or survival of the engaging little mammal.

I am an ex-pat now living in Ukraine where the red squirrel is part of the fauna. Just as it is in many European countries. Although a most pleasant animal it is more iconic in other countries than in the UK.

Red squirrels have been reintroduced near my home on Anglesey. It seems symbolic of the way the rural life is being ppushed to the margins of society.
