The Vespa although an Italian-made bike, represents an English youth movement - the Mods and Rockers. The mod fashion era was a very English movement at a time when much of the fashion and most of the music, was coming from the USA. It gave English youth something of their own to be proud of, and the clothes they wore bore a union flag which they wore with pride.

Come on people vote for this nomination! There must be people out there who can see the point here?!

If people like Danny read the comments correctly, they would ascertain that I said that the Vespa scooter was indeed an Italian made bike, but that nonetheless it was a symbol of the people who rode them - the mods, who represented English fashion and an English popular music movement!
