I remember Woollies as a child, listening to the records they played, and gazing through the glass counter ends which were just at my eye height, at the sweets toys etc. I have an enduring memory of the time when they played the record Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, and I sang it at home. My mother demanded to know where I had learnt that disgusting song. I said "In Woollies" she didn't believe me as "Woolworths was a respectable shop!" Apparently not, as I did hear it played in the shop. Oh and when my grandmother died I was left a bread and butter plate plus 6 tea plates, that my grandmither had bought as a young edwardian wife for 6d each, buying one a week until she had a complete set. I saw the same items in the London Museum display of Woolworths some time later. Needless to say I shall never part with them.
