Angel of the North: the biography

Britain’s most famous piece of public modern art, Antony Gormley’s Angel of the North stands on a hilltop at the head of the Team Valley, on the southern approach to Tyneside.

A TV star

In a very short space of time the Angel of the North has become a symbol of Gateshead, the North, public and contemporary art and of urban regeneration. It has featured on the big and small screen several times in the few years since its completion.
