Land Rover

Land Rover
First Production Land Rover Series I © British Motor Industry Heritage Trust

Used around the world, but distinctly English, the Land Rover is justifiably regarded as one of England’s most loved and respected pieces of motoring heritage.

Land Rover is an iconic British brand - and has been for the past half a century and more. People everywhere recognise the Land Rover as they have explored the far reaches of the world for work and play. Indeed, the nation's workhorse, the rural, rugged and versatile “Landy” - as it is affectionately known by its keenest fans - celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2008.

Testament to its ability to transcend class and culture, you are as likely to see a Land Rover navigating the dry plains of the Serengeti in Africa as you are the muddy plains of Northumbria, such is its far-reaching and all encompassing appeal.  An instant hit with farmers and the armed forces as a hardwearing, utility vehicle at the time of its release in 1948, sales have since hit well over the two million mark - impressive considering its humble beginnings. A workhorse standing the test of time, it’s believed over 70% of (the original) Land Rovers ever built are still on the road.
