Miniskirt

Swinging Sixties

Mary Quant, often credited with creating the mini-skirt, owned a Mini Cooper. She was in good company – all of the Beatles, along with Twiggy, Brigitte Bardot and Steve McQueen also had the car.

The Avengers

Although Mary Quant is most often credited with designing the mini-skirt, some people think designer John Bates was, in fact, responsible for it. His costumes and accessories for Diana Rigg in the 1960s television show The Avengers, have been said to define “Mod style”. Rigg’s character Emma Peel played alongside secret agent John Steed played by Patrick Macnee. His trademark was a bowler hat.
